We'd like to get a feel for who is planning on coming and who is not to the Easykart Grand Nationals in September. Jump in and post your name and class either way.
Thanks Monticello Karting

Many folks are probably waiting to see what the final rules require before committing to attend. Questions like "will I be required to replace the IAME exhaust that came with my Easykart with a BMB exhaust in order to compete?" may have some scratching their heads. This (in addition to entry fees, seats, travel, lodging, food, time away from work/school, etc., etc.) will have a direct impact on the overall cost to compete and may leave some wondering if it is worthwhile to attend. My plan is to compete unless the cost gets out of control.

Hi guys, I can tell you right now if I am mandated to buy a new exhaust and a new seat I will [glow=red,2,300]not[/glow]be coming. I currently have three of the old style exhausts, which I rotate and clean. I really don't need a fourth one. As far as the seat I need a "wider than normal" seat so I can fit my but in place. The stock seat just won't fit. Again, with all due respect to Easykart, if you mandate these things, you will be shooting yourself in the foot! The right thing to do is start these changes after the Grand National, not before. You have shown patience so far this summer, delaying the implementation of the rules, I hope your patience continues. As far as the tires go, I don't care what we run, as we all have to buy tires anyway and we will all be on the same brand. If everything falls the correct way, I'll be there, otherwise, no way. I guess we will wait and see??? It's truly in Easykart's hands now

New exhaust? New seat? I am beginning to wonder who this is "Easy" for. I'd love to attend my first Grand Nationals but the question remans, will I be racing, or watching.

Splitting hairs with blue bearing cassette's, exhaust issues, seat issues and mandated Easykart stickers?? And they should NOT wait until after the Grand Nationals; they should NEVER do it.
They should rename it to 'Difficultkart'
I hear the shifter calling my name......

I know Easykart Florida is under pressure to "comform" to the International rules, but a few misguided decisions now, might just cause to Grand National to be a 2 or 3 kart event and I'm sure that's not what they are hoping for! I really don't care what the rest of the world has to do, to conform with the rules with their Easykarts, all I know is I can't spend any more money. The only one who benifits from all these upgrades is Easykart, in parts sales. The Easykart family (racers) needs to speak up, and speak up now, to let Joffrey know our thoughts, or we will all be spending way more money than we want, and Easykart won't be so "easy" any more. I must say, that I have great respect for Jofffrey for taking on such a daunting "mission" but it will be all for naught if he doesn't listen to his racers. We are the one's who pay the bill!

I am in agreement with the majority, I have 2 IAME exhaust pipes, 1 came with our kart and the other I purchased from an authorized Easykert dealer. I am not speding $150± for a new pipe.
I understand the reason of having stock equipement in a spec series, that is the main reason most of us got into Easykart in the first place, BUT when you buy replacement parts made by Easykart or Freeline and they showup with a blue finish instead of silver it starts getting a little rediculous, as long as the part numbers match they are authentic parts, there is not a performance advantage and they should be allowed.
I know new management is trying to make sure everyone conforms to the rules, but for years EK been lax on rules and inconsistant on technical inspections, slowly they've been letting teams get away from spec parts, be it seats, sterring wheels, batteries or brake pads. Some of us have had to use aftermarket parts because we weren't able to get Easykart or Freeline brands because they weren't available. I don't have a problem with uniformity but you can't expect teams to spend hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars overnight when their karts have adhered to the rules up to this point.
Another thing is I'm not thrilled about having the Grand National race to be the first race we use a new tire compound (like last year). Some of us don't have the $$$$$$ to buy a couple sets of tire for testing in order to determine what changes need to be made.
Chances are we won't be in Monticello in September.

We would like to attend and race our EK 100 but so far I would have to chuck my Mychron 4 Steering Wheel, but a Freeline One, chuck my exhaust muffler, buy a new "Easykart Logo" one and well to be quite frank its not worth it to us. This coupled with the long haul from Miami and the costs incurred and guess what............Easykart still hasn't got the message about missing school. If you are in the Monticello area and your kart is currently in spec go race it!!!!!!!!!! Bob/Bobby EK 100 #35

Sounds like the only karts that will meet all the specifications are the new BMB's. Coincidence? I think not! How many BMB's are out there now? I'm sure they will put on quite a show in September (all five of them)

That's essentially what you have been running in Monticello anyway, and look at the results! Great attendance, enthusiasm, and most of all great competition. Maybe we could have a "Not so Grand National"?

At the last 2 FKCS races there were 3 BMB karts in 125 lite at Jacksonville and 2 at Ocala. All were from Joffre's stable. I think there was 1 60cc and 1 100cc at each track.
So far I haven't been impressed with there reliability. I'm sure some of the problems are due to working the bugs out.
At Jacksonville the pole sitter did not start the feature race due to mechanical problems & at Ocala 1 BMB was sitting on the grid for heat race.
There performance seems to be consistant with the IAME motors, so far I haven't seen a huge advantage one way or the other, at Jax the polesitter finished the heat race 2nd and Joffre finished the feature race 4th, at Ocala Joffre finished 1st, but in both cases noboby ran away from the field.
As far as karts conforming to the rules, with the exception of our IAME exhaust pipe the only thing we would have to change is our steering wheel, and I still have the original in our trailer, BUT I am getting the impression its not going be worth the time, money or effort it will take to travel from South Florida.

We would love to come and race but unfortunately will not be able to for the following reasons:
- Cost to bring 2 karts (125 & 60) into compliance with new rules - New rules still have clarifications outstanding - Cost of the race, entry, travel, etc
At the very least I'd love to get my son to particpate but I would have to buy a new steering wheel, pipe (heard this is $300), seat and possibly couple other odds / ends. That pretty much exceeds our tight racing budget if the entry is the usual $400.
Take a look at the new rules....there are still many questions to be answered. Here are just a couple that come to mind:
- Chain Links are now specified....meaning the number of links you can run in your chain. How is this being checked and why is this a rule?
- Not clear on 125 if the third bearing bolts are allowed replacement with tie wraps....also has some cryptic word I think alludes to requiring the set screws to be installed
BTW, if they could write the rules in plain English with terms we understand it might help reduce the confusion. I feel like I'm trying to interpet the Dead Sea Scrolls everytime I look at the darn thing!

I agree with krtracr regarding the paradigm shift from previous years of run what ya brung to a full blown nit picking, no tolerance technical scrutiny. We just bought a new seat because we needed one (key word needed) and in the spirit of eventually getting into compliance bought a Birel Seat which I had Easykart certify in writing complies with the "Freeline" requirement. We just bought an entire "Freeline" rear bumper setup (along with most of us) and thats all we are forking out for at this time. This allows us to race at our home track, Homestead. Since Homestead Karting views the rest of it as over bearing for club level racing, that is where we will participate for the time being. Besides, we don't need to leave town to find great competition and get our butts kicked. As for going to Italy...........I'll shut up, I don't want to dampen anyones enthusiasm. The sad part of lack luster participation resides in the fact that the "best" of each class may not participate and the "Team" that goes to Italy may not be the best this part of the world has to offer.
