Hello, everyone! I just moved back to the Gulf Coast after a decade in Louisiana. I ran 125cc Shifters over there for a few years before running a GT production car. I haven't been racing in a few years, but with a 3 year-old son, I'm looking to get back in the game so I can bring him into the sport. What are the biggest classes at MK?
I'm most interested in single-speed classes. Something that can be run without a ton of maintenance or high cost. I prefer to build my own motors, but a sealed motor class isn't out of the question. More than anything, I want to run against a large field. What does MK have to offer?
Also, does the kart shop do any arrive and drive racing? I am more of looking for a rental race-kart, not a rental-kart race.
Anyway, my name is Andrew and I look forward to meeting the karting community in NWFl!

Over in La, the L206 is getting pretty hot. Are there any plans to run it at your track?

The predominant local sprint classes are the 125 Easykart light and heavy classes. This is a 2 cycle Tag kart, spec chassis and motor, run any tire you want. Karts are quick and plentiful in the local area. The L206 is a Briggs motor, if I am not mistaking, and none have been running here. We do have an Endurance series which uses a Subaru 4 stroke engine in both stock and modified divisions. The Endurance races are 5 hour timed events, recent winners have been totaling 285 miles for an average of 57 mph including pit stops. Come over and check us out. Hope to see you soon.

Andrew, we have a couple of 125's that we rent for track sessions, not for races. You must complete one of our driver schools prior to renting.

Sounds good. What licensing requirements do you have for the local series? All of my WKA/NASA/SCCA/GBRS licenses have lapsed. I don't mind doing a check-ride. I was an instructor in La for a few different organizations.
The 125 Easykart seems like a good class. I've never been in an area that ran them, but I'm at least a vaguely familiar with the program. What's the maintenance like on those? Are they sealed motor or are they user-serviceable?
Also, at what age do you allow kids to practice? I'm looking to get my son into driving fairly young, even if he isn't allowed to run the kid-kart races until later.
I'm going to try to make it out to a race sometime soon to meet some folks, check out the program, etc. I look forward to meeting the local community and getting back into karting.

Also, do you offer rentals for the endurance series or do we need our own ride?

Andrew, No licensing, just complete the driver school mentioned earlier, takes about 45 minutes. I would highly recommend learning the track in one of our school karts, they go for $35 per session as opposed to $80 per session for the 125 Tag kart. The 125's are fairly easy to service, depending on your mechanical skills. The motors are not sealed, however, a fair amount of special tools are required to perform rebuilds. A full line of parts as well as rebuild services are available at the track. The age requirement is more of a size requirement, your son must be able to reach and operate the brakes. We have a kid kart that we rent and usually kids are 5 to 6 year years old before they "fit" the kart. Hope to see you soon.

Endurance karts are available for rent. You will need 4 drivers, we can usually help if you need drivers.
